The Eagles.
A short history.
In late 2000 I bumped into a guy I used to ride with in the late 60s early 70s. We started to ride together again, After a few months we thought it would be a good idea to find some of the other guys from the old days and have a reunion.
It took some months to locate most of them and get a do organised, so in mid 2001 we had a bash at the Wagon and Horses in Grantham, we advertised it locally as a bike night and were surprised at how many local bikers turned up, there was obviously a need for local club and so the Eagles were born.
We soon outgrew this venue and needed to look for something bigger and closer to where the members lived, so, we moved to the Three Kings at Threekingham, near Sleaford, this was short as the landlord turned out to be anti smoking, pool table, juke box and just about everything that you would go to a pub for.
Next came the Robin Hood at Aslackby a few miles away, nice venue and we put some good rock nights and general piss ups on but we must have had a pound sign stamped on our foreheads. They used any excuse to charge us more for the beer than the locals, so we moved to The Sloop Inn on the A52.
At last a biker pub run by a biker, I can't thank Del, the landlord enough for the time we had there, about 3 years. He looked after us well and we had our rock nights, birthday parties, Christmas parties, club anniversary, Halloween parties, Christmas dinner, breakfast, dinner, tea, supper and just about any reason for a piss up but all good things come to an end and in 2006 The Sloop closed. We moved, hopefully for the last time to Heckington Sports Club.
This is a great venue with two bars, a disco and dance floor, showers, food and loads of space for camping and our rally The Swamp Donkey. We were invited to use this sports club as our base by the then chairman Peter Light, Peter was honest with us and told us the club was in dire straights so together we put on as many do's as we could to put some revenue over the bar. Alas, just before Christmas 2006 Peter died and relationships between us and the committee now running the sports club ( i use the term " running" lightly ) started going down hill. By the end of November 2007 the sports club was no longer in trouble and guess what? our club wasn't needed any more, ( well ain't that a surprise ) and we were asked to leave, "here we go again", so we moved to The Whichcote Arms, Osbournby nr sleaford, nice function room, good food, friendly staff and locals, keep ya fingers crossed.
One day will find a base somewhere long term, there must be places out there that wants the considerable revenue that we create every year as a club, HELLO OUT THERE.
Since the first year we have maintained about 60-70 members, most are local but some have a bit of a ride from places including Brigg and Scarborough.
The members range from 20-61 years of age, (18 being the minimum age) and ride cruisers, chops, plastic rockets, trikes and tourers (its not the type of bike that's important), its the people.
The club does all the usual stuff ride outs, rallies, a bit of charity stuff and some unusual stuff like theme nights, Gangsters and Molls etc, well any excuse will do.
Once a year we have a club run over the water, in the last few years we have been to The South of France, Germany, Switzerland, Spain and Luxembourg.
In 2008 we went to Route 66 Hotel, in Bussiere Poitevine, Limousin, France. The 2009 run is to northern Spain. Well here we are in 2009 with our fingers crossed but it didn't help, the Whichcote Arms closed so we are off again this time to The Five Bells, Edenham, Nr Bourne, dare i say it, it looks ideal! a big function room, plenty of parking, a beer garden (handy for camping), a new landlord and his family who are biker friendy!.
